On a day where Kris Bryant returned to Wrigley Field for the first time since being traded from the Chicago Cubs, the San Francisco Giants left the Friendly Confines, happy.
Evan Longoria hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning and then Brandon Belt also added a two-run home run later in the inning, as the Giants made it five in a row with a 6-1 victory over the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
With the victory, the Giants are now an amazing 41 games over .500 with a record of 91-50 and for the time being, they are three games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. The Dodgers face the San Diego Padres later tonight at Dodger Stadium.
Longoria added another run batted in the top of the eighth inning that scored Bryant from third base to close out the scoring for the Giants.
Prior to the game, Bryant showed his emotions, when the Cubs showed a video for Bryant, who was the 2015 National League Rookie of Year, the 2016 NL Most Valuable Player and helped lead the Cubs to their first World Championship since 1908, when they defeated the Cleveland Indians in a seven-game series after they trailed the Indians three games to one.
Bryant also received the number 17 off the famous Wrigley Field scoreboard and also received a 2016 flag that honors the Cubs World Series Championship.
The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Frank Schwindel hit his 12th home run of the season off of fourth inning, as he led off the inning with the solo home run off of Jarlin Garcia.
In what was a bullpen game for the Giants, Dominic Leone took the mound for the Giants when they took the field when the game started and did not allow a hit and struck out two in his two innings of work.
Garcia, who gave up the only run of the game to the Cubs to Schwindel, went 1.1 innings, allowing one run on one hit, walked one and struck out one.
Zack Littell then came to replace Garcia, and he struck out both batters he faced to end the bottom of the fourth inning and also picked up a base hit in the top of the fifth inning.
Following Littell, the Giants sent Jose Alvarez, Camilo Doval, Tyler Rogers, Tony Watson and Jay Jackson to the mound.
After the Schwindel home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cubs lone other hit came off the bat of Schwindel in the bottom of the sixth inning.
LaMonte Wade, Jr., tied up the game for the Giants in the top of the sixth inning, as he reached on an infield single that scored Belt; however, Wade, Jr., was thrown out at second base, when he attempted to reach second base.
NOTES: Jose Quintana was placed on the paternity list and Jackson was recalled from Sacramento.
When Wade Jr., drove in the winning run on Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field, it was fifth and sixth RBIs in the ninth inning or later this season that have either given the Giants the lead or tied up the game.
UP NEXT: Kevin Gausman goes for his 13th win of the season on Saturday afternoon, as he takes the mound for the Giants, while the Giants will send Zach Davies to the mound.
