The scheduled game between the Stanford Cardinal and the Washington State Cougars had been canceled at Stanford Stadium as announced Friday due to a Covid-19 outbreak. The Cougars did not have the required amount of players available after a number of Cougar players tested positive.

Washington State Athletic Director Paul Chun announced Friday that the Cougars had four players that tested positive and had to be put on Covid-19 protocols and the game had to be canceled according to Chun.

The minimum amount of 53 players could not be met by the Cougars and the Cougars quarterback Jayden de Laura had tested positive and it was just as well that the Cougars packed up their gear and got on the plane for Spokane as their would be no game on Saturday as scheduled at Stanford Stadium.

The Stanford-Washington State game will be recorded as a no contest game and earlier before the Cardinal-Cougar cancelation it was announced that Arizona State and Colorado was also canceled due to Covid-19 snafu issues.

Chun made the announcement also that both universities are sad about the game cancelations, that so much work and practice goes into preparing for a Pac 12 game like this and it’s cancelation is a huge disappointment as stated by Chun, “saddened for not only our student-athletes, coaches and staff, but those within the Stanford program who have worked so hard preparing for this weekend.”

Chun said he was not even sure if Friday’s Apple Cup would be played  but added that Washington State would do everything they can to get a team together by next Friday in preparation for the contest at Pullman that it comes off without a hitch.

Stanford is scheduled to play at Cal on Fri Nov 27th the day after Thanksgiving for the Big Game at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
