The Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians met for the first time in history during the 112th edition of the World Series. The Chicago Cubs won a very exciting game 7, in 10 innings 8 to 7. Ben Zobrist was the MVP of the first World Series title for the Cubs since 1908. In 1908 the Cubs defeated the Detroit Tigers four games to one. Theodore Roosevelt was the President. The population was 88 million people. The Model T Ford is first produced at a price of $825, and the Montreal Wanderers won the Stanley Cup. During the 2016 World Series, FOX Sports recorded the highest audience since 1991, with over 40 million people in the USA tuning into game 7. The pre and post game shows on FOX were also a hit with commentary by Pete Rose, Alex Rodriguez and Frank Thomas. The 2016 MLB season finally came to an end on November 2 with the historic seventh game. A few days later, about 5 million people celebrated the Cubs parade in the streets of Chicago.

The San Francisco Giants had a great first half and a second half of horrors, as the Dodgers passed them up and won their fourth consecutive Western title. Then they were eliminated at AT&T Park in game four, of the National League Divisional Series, against the favorite Chicago Cubs, in what was a total nightmare for the Giants who had a 5-2 lead, after a brilliant game by starter Matt Moore, but then in the ninth inning (the Giants bullpen happened) and the Cubs scored four runs against five different Giants relievers, to give the Cubs a 6-5 win and sent the Giants dreams away until next year, as they will try their chances from now on, winning on odd years,2017-19-21…

The Oakland Athletics finished in the cellar of the American League West for the second year in a row with a 69-93 record, almost identical to 2015(68-94). Another dismal season for a very good manager Bob Melvin. But there were some bright spots, left fielder Kris Davis on his first year with the ballclub, hit 42 homeruns and drove in 102 runs, he was the undisputed,” Slugger of the Bay Area”. Marcus Semien, Danny Valencia played well and rookie Ryon Healy, impressed me the most, he could be a star for many years to come. Their #1 pitcher Sonny Gray was hurt, but other young arms are there to stay and could be very competitive. The Billy Butler, experiment of three years and $30 million ended. We will see the A’s in a few months during Spring Training in Arizona and see what they have for 2017.

On Sunday, August 7 at Coors Field in Denver, Miami Marlins outfielder Ichiro Susuki tripled in the seventh inning against Chris Rusin of the Colorado Rockies, becoming the 30th player in major league history with 3,000 career hits. Ichiro is the best known player ever to come from Japan.

Early morning of Sunday September 25, Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident off Miami Beach, Florida. At 24 years of age, The Cuban-born pitching ace of the Miami Marlins watt one of the best pitchers in the game.

Dominican-born superstar David (Big Papi) Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, retires after a brilliant 20 year career in which he played 2,408 games, hit 541 Home runs and drove-in 1,768 runs.

Legendary announcer Vin Scully retired on October 2 after calling his last game of a 67 year career from Brooklyn to Los Angeles as the iconic Voice of the Dodgers.
