SAN FRANCISCO–It is not very often that the same team wins three Gold Gloves in the same season, but the San Francisco Giants just did that.
Shortstop Brandon Crawford, second baseman Joe Panik and catcher Buster Posey took home the prestigious awards as named by the Rawlings corporation.
The trio are the first trio of Giants to win the Gold Gloves since 1993, when outfielder Barry Bonds, catcher Kirt Manwaring, second baseman Robby Thompson and third baseman Robby Thompson each took Gold Gloves at their respective positions.
Posey’s win at catcher stopped the eight-year winning streak of Yadier Molina of the St. Louis Cardinals.
This was the first Gold Glove for Posey, who switched from playing shortstop to catcher while playing for Mike Martin at Florida State University.
As for Crawford, this was the second year in a row that the Bay Area native and longtime Giants fan won the Gold Glove.
In just his second full season in the major leagues, Panik won his first Gold Glove at second base.
Panik, who missed a lot of the season due to various injuries played a significant role in helping the Giants return to the postseason after missing the postseason in 2015.
