AP photo: Cleveland catcher Roberto Perez connects for the second of his homers this one in the eighth against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night at Progressive Field in game one of the 2016 World Series
Roberto Perez who got two two home runs in game one of this 2016 World Series is not the starting catcher for Cleveland but it’s Yan Gomes. Gomes was hurt most of this season. So manager Tito Francona gave this kid the responsibility of being the catcher. Perez hit under .200 the whole year making former major leaguer Mario Mendoza proud. So what does Perez do in his first game of the World Series? He takes Chicago Cub starter Jon Lester deep in the bottom of the first inning with a two run tater.
Perez hits two home runs and drives in four runs in game one in the 6-0 head shaking win for Cleveland. This is something nobody can predict I don’t care who you are nobody can predict that. Talking about predictions the first game of the series you have a guy like Corey Kluber a right hander. He was just about perfect he was hitting all the spots, he was pitching a great game and Cleveland had to win that game. The Cubs on the other side they have Jon Lester, Jon Lackey, they have Kyle Hendricks who should win the Cy Young Award. Their loaded too and the Cubs can make a come back it’s a best of four out seven it could be interesting.
