AP photo: Toronto Blue Jays reliever Roberto Osuna and catcher Russell Martin share congratulations after the Texas Rangers hitter Mitch Moreland who flew to center in the bottom of the ninth ending the game at the Ball Park in Arlington on Friday aftenoon’s ALDS playoff game one
On the podcast with Tony:
The Toronto Blue Jays who have a 2-0 lead in the ALDS with the Texas Rangers started the post season with an 11 inning victory over the Baltimore Orioles when the Orioles manager Bucky Showalter failed to put in reliever Jack Brittin in. Brittin who save pretty much saved every game for the O’s during the regular season and Showalter put in another reliever and the O’s ended up losing because of that decision. It’s the hairline mistakes that could happen in a ball game that could put a team like the Blue Jays in the drivers seat. The Jays now are up 2-0 and could wrap the series at the Rogers Centre in Toronto in game three on Sunday.
The Wild Card format does add a little excitement to MLB and who knew this Wild Card format could be a three team playoff with the NL and AL. It’s amazing and it’s exciting baseball and they are doing stuff they need to do to try and grab a younger audience. The average age of baseball fans is now 53 and the game it’s quick and it’s entertaining and if you look at those two games their decided in extra innings. We’re onto the Division Series and it’s a five game format. If baseball reduced it’s regular season schedule to 154 games you might see a three game format for the wild card.
