AP photo: This did not end well for the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper who protested a strike call by plate umpire Mike Winters in a game against the Colorado Rockies in the tenth inning Rocks catcher Nick Hundley is in the background at Nationals Park on Saturday
On the MLB podcast with Daniel, the Washington Nationals Bryce Harper was thrown out of Saturday’s game vs. the Colorado Rockies for arguing a pitch that was called strike three. Plate umpire Mike Winters called the strike and Harper argued the pitch was outside and Winters ceremoniously ejected Harper. Harper got in Winters ear and got his money’s worth before heading to the showers. Nats manager Dusty Baker said that ejections are common at this point of the season, the weather is hot, tempers are short, you see the same people everyday it happens this time of the year.
The Boston Red Sox Dustin Pedroia fell one hit short of tying the 12 hit record held by three MLB players as Pedroia went 11-11, 11 straight hits in 11 at bats. Pedroia needed the hit when he grounded into a 4-6-3 double play in his 12th at bat.
