If you thought that Madison Bumgarner would pitch a complete game, giving up only two hits, you would have thought that the San Francisco Giants would have won.
Unfortunately that was not the case, as Wilson Ramos hit a solo home run off of Bumgarner in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Washington Nationals defeated the Giants 1-0 at Nationals Park.
The home run by Ramos gave Tanner Roark his 12th win of the season, as he allowed five hits in seven innings of work.
It was the sixth win in his last outings, as Roark has thrown at least seven innings a league-high seven times this season.
As for Bumgarner, it was his seventh loss of the season against 10 wins. In his eight innings of work, Bumgarner walked just two and struck out seven
Anthony Rendon was the first Nationals batter to get a hit off of Bumgarner, as he doubled in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ben Revere made the play of the game, as he made an over-the-shoulder catch off of a Brandon Belt hit ball with runners on second and third to end the top of the seventh inning.
Shawn Kelly and Mark Melancon retired the Giants in order in the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the shutout for Roark. It was the 31st save of the season for Melancon.
