Fans of the San Diego Padres if they are cursed like the Chicago Cubs, despite the fact the two teams joined the National League 93 years apart.
The Cubs, who as everyone knows have not won the World Series since 1908; however the Padres in their team history have never thrown a no-hitter.
Edwin Jackson, who was making his first start as a member of the Padres went 761 innings of no-hit ball before allowing a three-run home run to Conor Gillaspie in the top of the eighth inning and the Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-3 at Petco Park.
This was the first sweep of the season for the Padres, as they pinned the first loss on Johnny Cueto since April 21.
Jackson went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on one hit, walking five and striking out four, as he threw 90 pitches.
Following a strikeout of Brandon Crawford to begin the seventh inning, Jackson was unable to field a ball hit by Gregor Blanco for an error, then walked Ramiro Pena and then Gillaspie hit a 3-1 pitch into the right field seats.
Cueto went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking three and striking out four, as his record fell to 13-2 on the season.
The right-hander got into the sixth inning, but after a walk to Alex Dickerson and a single to Christian Bethancourt to leadoff the inning, Cueto’s day was done.
Like he did in the All-Star game on Tuesday, Cueto allowed two home runs in the loss, as Matt Kemp hit his 18th home run of the season and Bethancourt hit his fifth.
