Thru the first few innings of his first start of the All-Star break, it looked like Madison Bumgarner was going to pickup where his first half left off.
Unfortunately, that was not the case, as Wil Myers hit his 20th home run of the season and former Oakland A’s infielder Adam Rosales added one of his own and the San Diego Padres defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-1 at Petco Park.
In his last start, Bumgarner threw a complete game one-hit shutout against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday at AT&T Park.
Bumgarner fell to 11-4 on the season, as he went six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits walking just one and striking out nine.
Yangervis Solarte got the Padres on the board in the first inning, as he hit a double to score Myers.
Conor Gillaspie drove in the Giants only run of the game in the top of the second inning, as he singled in Brandon Crawford, who doubled to lead off the inning.
Matt Kemp drove in the eventual winning run in the bottom of the third inning, as he singled in Derek Norris, who singled with one out.
Rosales took a Bumgarner pitch and planted it off the side of the Western Metal Supply Company warehouse in left field, as he led off the led off the bottom of the fourth inning.
Myers then extended the lead to three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, as he took a Bumgarner offering over the right-center field wall.
Andrew Cashner won for the fourth time this season, as he also went six innings, allowing one run, while scattering four hits. Cashner did not walk a batter and struck out nine and won for the first time in his last four starts.
Brandon Belt and Bruce Bochy were both ejected with two outs in the top of the ninth inning by home plate umpire Mike Estabrook. Both Belt and Bochy were ejected after arguing a called strike three.
