OAKLAND–Sometimes the unexpected happens in the ever changing world of AM radio. Salem Communications just bought San Francisco’s ESPN Deportes, and starting this next July 4th they will change format from Spanish language Sports (including San Francisco Giants games) to Conservative Talk, as KTRB now 860AM will be named “The Answer”. This move left the Giants Spanish radio broadcast out cold.
Because of the nature of baseball, so many games at so many different times (although most games take place at night, the Giants as of today do not have another carrier for their Spanish broadcasts. Possibility that the games will air over the internet. For another radio station to take the remaining games left this 2016 season of the San Francisco Giants, they would have to totally change their format, dump existing shows, and adjust their format to fit baseball.
Broadcasters Erwin Higueros and Tito Fuentes may have called their last game on radio, this season. last night as the Giants won the last game of a four-game series from the Oakland Athletics, at the Oakland Coliseum. If the Athletics swept this series, it would have been the first time they did so, (4 game series)since they swept the 1989 World Series against the Giants.
