Thats Amaury’s News and Commentary: Baseball in Havana? Not so fast

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

SAN FRANCISCO–Cuba is the only country outside the United States that had a professional baseball team in the United States. The Havana Sugar Kings were a Cuban-based minor league baseball team that played in the Class AAA International League from 1954 to 1960 .

They were affiliated with Major League Baseball’s Cincinnati Reds and their home stadium was El Gran Estadio del Cerro(sometimes called Gran Stadium) in Havana, Cuba. The Sugar Kings began life in 1946 as the Havana Cubans, founded by the Washington Senators scout Joe Cambria. They played in the old Class C (later Class B) Florida International League In 1954, Roberto “Bobby” Maduro bought the team, moved it to the International League, and renamed it the Sugar Kings.

Several talented Cuban players and other Latinos who eventually made it to the Major Leagues donned the Sugar Kings uniform, including Luis Arroyo Pompeyo Davalillo, Tony Gonzalez, Cookie Rojas, Elio Chacon, Daniel Morejon, Preston Gómez, Leo Cárdenas, and Mike Cuellar. The Sugar Kings — led by future major league manager Preston Gómez 1960 was the last year the Cuban team played in theInternational League. That year the teams finished: 1-Toronto Maple Leafs(Clev), 2-Richmond Virginians(New Yankees), 3-Rochester Red Wings(St.Louis), 4- Buffalo Bisons(Phila), 5-Havana Sugar Kings(Cinci), 6-Columbus Jets(Pitts),7-Miami Marlins(Balt), 8-Montreal Royals(LAD).

Preston Gómez who worked for the Los Angeles Angels towards the end of his life, told me that Cuba was the perfect place for expansion if Major League Baseball decided to have a club outside the continental United States; geographical location, easy travel for most teams, just a hop from Miami. Gómez was sent by the baseball commissioner to Cuba to arrange the 1998 exhibition series between the Baltimore Orioles and the Cuban National team.

Preston also told me, that the United States will never have a team back in Cuba (at any level) unless Cuba had a totally different type of government.Just days after President Barack Obama made his announcement of the US intentions of re-establishing relations with Cuba President Raúl Castro declared victory for the Cuban Revolution,in a wide-ranging speech, thanking President Obama for “a new chapter” while also reaffirming that restored relations with the United States did not mean the end of Communist rule in Cuba.

In Cuba the 1% is the government. The leaders of the communist nation eat well, they can travel freely in and out of the island, they have all the privileges that they themselves negate the regular Cuban people. So it remains to be seen what really is going to happen between the US and Cuba. Words are just words, unless they translate to action. The fact is that in 1960 Cuba was one of the most advanced countries in Latin America.

A lot of people here in the US still do not understand, that under the current communist dictatorship of over half century in the island of Cuba, President Barack Obama is considered another capitalist pig by thecurrent Cuban government. That is the rhetoric that Cuba has been spilling, even after they lost their biggest friend, the old Soviet Union, who sponsored Cuba for billions of dollars each year, and after 1989 when that country’s system of communism went down the drain, Cuba was left alone with little support. Cuba had a lot to do in Venezuela, especially when Hugo Chávez was alive and became very cozy with Fidel Castro, who Chávez himself considered like a father to him, because of the same communist philosophy their shared.

The decline in world oil prices, today Venezuela is going through a very difficult economic crisis. There is a lot of misunderstanding about Cuba, since there has been non diplomatic relations with that country and no travel really allowed from the US to Cuba since the early 1960’s. Cuba always benefited for its geographic location, just 90 milesfrom US shores. However, the US never colonized Cuba,as a matter of historical fact, America actually liberated Cuba from Spanish colonialism, and though the U.S.influenced the island heavily for decades afterward, the U.S. President recently attempted the moral equivalence between “colonization” and communist tyranny, and that, at the least’is very disingenuous.

Cuba gained its independence from Spain in 1902. Havana had a lot of American influence until 1960, and yes the mafia had a foothold in the entertainment business in Havana, but the same was the case then in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and many other cities in the United States.Havana was Las Vegas, before there was Las Vegas, but most of the Cuban people had absolutely nothing to do with the mob. It is a chapter that Hollywood loves to recreate, but most of those big time movie moguls never visited Cuba and had no idea of the real Cuba before Fidel Castro and his gang.

In 2005 Cuban-American born actor Andy García, Produced and Directed “The Lost City”, a story of his family caught in the middle of a violent revolution, they had to leave and lost everything, but there are far and few movies of that sort. One of the reasons this movie was made is because García’s family lived it in his native Cuba, and obvioulsy he has the means and the name and the respect of Hollywood, to make the movie.

US citizen Alan Gross was arrested in Cuba in 2009 and sentenced to 15 years in prison for importing banned technology and trying to establish clandestine Internet service for Cuban Jews. After serving 5 years he was recently released and is now back in the United States.

As of today, at the very end of 2014, US. citizens arebarred from traveling to Cuba without government permission under a U.S. trade embargo imposed half a century ago that can only be lifted by Congress. The composition(balance of power) of the US Congress is changing next month, so this story still developing. Through out the years many people asked me why I have not visited Cuba. There is nothing for me to do there, I know what happened, I know the truth, my family left and I still have the deed of the illegaly confiscated property that was taken by the Castro government.

For me to visit Cuba today will bring me more bad than good memories. I know US citizens that go to Cuba, but I have yet met one that stayed in Cuba, some do not like corporations or capitalism, but they rather live here in the US, which is very interesting, because if they were honest to their core, they would stay in Cuba. If you do not want to see Walmarts and McDonalds, I would recommend moving to Cuba and be happy.

Will professional baseball be back in Cuba? Time will tell, the root of the problem in Cuba is not the Cuban people, but their government, they are the ones that have to change, The US has been a democracy for 239 years, Cuba has been a totalitarian communist dictatorship for some 55 years. You can be a communist in the US, we can see the signs in many demostrations on the street here, but you cannot be for democracy in Cuba, and if you are, and the Cuban government finds out, your next home is a prison.

Wishing you and yours a healthy, happy and prosperous 2015.

Raiders head to Mile High for regular season finale

By Joe Hawkes-Beamon

Follow Joe on twitter @JLHB510

OAKLAND — After dispatching the visiting Buffalo Bills 26-24 at O.co Coliseum in Week 16 behind two touchdown passes from rookie quarterback Derek Carr and four field goals from Sebastian Janikowski and extending the Bills playoff drought to 15 years, the Raiders travel to Denver Sunday to take on the AFC West champion Broncos in both team’s regular season finale.

Oakland (3-12) dominated the time of possession over the Bills (8-7), 33:47 to 26:13, and rushing yards, 140 to 13.

After starting the season 0-10, the Raiders are 3-2 in their last five games with victories over Kansas City, San Francisco, and now, Buffalo.

“I can’t say enough good things about this team,” interim coach Tony Sparano said. “I love the guys in that locker room. They’re fighters. Anytime somebody counts them out, they bounce back. It’s a great sign of character.”

Defensively, Oakland got key contributions from middle linebacker Miles Burris, who recorded a team-high nine tackles (4 solo) and cornerback D.J. Hayden, who had six tackles.

With Oakland trailing Buffalo, 7-0 in the second quarter behind Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins’ 42-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter and Buffalo driving into Oakland’s territory, veteran safety Charles Woodson out-muscled Bills tight end Scott Chandler for the ball to record his 60th career interception. Woodson’s interception, proved to be the play that provided Oakland with the momentum to carry them through the rest of the game.

“This team has never really gotten down to the point where we were ready to give up,” safety Woodson said. “It’s always been an upbeat attitude with the guys on the team, and it shows out there each week.”

There is no doubt that Woodson has played at high level this year at age 38, leading the team in tackles (106) and interceptions (4), to go along with eight pass defensed and a sack.

Woodson, along with rookie linebacker Khalil Mack (tied for the team lead with four sacks), were named as alternates in the upcoming Pro Bowl. According to Pro Football Focus, Mack rates as the the best 4-3 outside linebacker in the NFL.

Fullback Marcel Reece was named a starter for the Pro Bowl, his third overall.

Denver is coming off gut-punching 37-28 loss in Cincinnati before a national televised audience where quarterback Peyton Manning threw a season-high four interceptions.

“I shouldn’t have thrown it,” said Manning, who was 28 of 44 for 311 yards with two touchdowns. “Four interceptions, you’re not going to beat many good football teams.”

With the loss, Denver (11-4) are locked in as the No. 2 seed as New England wrapped up home-field advantage throughout the AFC Playoffs. Denver also failed to clinch a first-round bye.

 Players to Watch

Oakland, QB, Derek Carr

There is no doubt that Carr is the Raiders’ quarterback of the future, and his play has definitely gotten better as the season gone on. Carr leads all rookie quarterbacks in passing yards (3,112) and touchdown passes (20). If it weren’t for Cincinnati rookie running back Jeremy Hill (199 carries, 1,024 rushing yards, 9 TDs) and New York Giants’ rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (79 catches, 1,120 receiving yards, 11 TDs) Carr would be walking away with the NFL Rookie of the Year award.

Denver, QB, Peyton Manning

Manning appeared mortal against Cincinnati with his season-high four interceptions, prompting many pundits to question whether Manning was injured. The Bengals was up in the future Hall of Famer’s grill, confusing Manning with an array of pressuring blitzes and knocking him down throughout the game. Rarely does Manning play poorly in back-to-back weeks and with the playoffs just one week away, one will expect Manning to have a bounce back performance. In Denver’s 41-17 demolishing over Oakland in Week 10, Manning threw for 340 and five touchdowns.

49ers Look to Play Spoiler Versus Cardinals

By: Ben Leonard

Follow Ben on Twitter @Ben___Leonard

Although the 49ers have been eliminated from playoff contention for two weeks now, they still have something to play for in their final game. In a disappointing season for the talent-laden Niners, seemingly nothing has gone their way. With a win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, San Francisco would spoil the Cardinals’ hopes for obtaining the NFC’s #1 seed, winning the NFC West, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. San Francisco has lost four straight games, and a win on Sunday would prove satisfying for more than just their own confidence.

The Niners will certainly be helped by the fact that Arizona will start Logan Thomas, a rookie quarterback out of Virginia Tech on Sunday. Thomas will become the fourth quarterback Arizona will have started this season, after successive injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. Third-stringer Ryan Lindley played poorly in a 35-6 drubbing at the hands of the Seahawks on Sunday night, forcing Cardinals’ coach Bruce Arians to move on from Lindley. Thomas’ performance was abysmal in his only action this season, completing just one of eight pass attempts. However, his one attempt did go for eighty-one yards, hitting running back Andre Ellington in a very tight window. There is simply not a large enough sample size to judge Thomas, but in college, he was  more dynamic as a runner than as a passer. He will add another dimension to Arizona’s offense, complicating the job for the Niners’ defense, especially since there is not much NFL film on the signal-caller.

However, on paper, San Francisco should not have a difficult time bottling up the inept Cardinals’ offense, who have struggled on both sides of the ball all season. They especially struggled Sunday against the Seahawks, in that they were only able to rush for twenty-nine yards. Stanford product Stepfan Taylor simply has not been the answer at running back, filling in for the injured Andre Ellington. With the Cardinals’ offense in tatters, San Francisco should be able to key in on Thomas and lock down Arizona’s futile offense. The Niners are fifth in the NFL in passing defense and seventh in rushing defense; Sunday should be nothing different against such a depleted unit.

In their last meeting, Arizona did prevail 23-14, mostly because of the contributions of Stanton, who is now injured. He rallied the Cardinals to scored seventeen unanswered points in the second half, erasing a 14-6 deficit in the process. However, Arizona was a much different football team in September; after starting out 9-1, they have stumbled to win only two of their last five.

The Cardinals’ defense did bottle up Frank Gore and the NFL’s sixth-best rushing attack last time out, yielding just eighty-two yards on the ground. Anchored by outside linebacker Alex Okafor, the Cardinals’ front seven is well-equipped to man-handle the Niners’ weak offensive line. Jonathan Martin simply has not been the answer for San Francisco at tackle, and is just one of many struggling regulars.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick had one of his best games this season in the previous matchup. Kapernick posted a Total QBR of 80.2, throwing for 245 yards while completing twenty-nine of thirty-seven pass attempts. He appeared very comfortable against the Cardinals’ third-worst ranked passing defense. Kaepernick has clearly lost confidence as a result of his recent struggles, guiding the Niners to four straight losses. For this reason, a win would bring confidence for 2015, along with satisfaction in spoiling their division rival’s aspirations.

Warriors Disappoint Against Lowly Lakers

By Matthew T.F. Harrington

For the first time in a successful debut season, rookie Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr cannot explain away a loss. It only took four times in the loser’s column for the Warriors (23-4) to final complete a game that, upon completion, had no silver lining.

The season’s first shortcoming against the Spurs proved a teaching moment for the then turnover-prone Dubs, but San Antonio is the defending champions for a reason. When the Warriors fell to the Phoenix Suns, it was a case of not having enough gas to truck through the second half of a back-to-back. The recent loss to the Memphis Grizzlies was a clash of the best of the Western Conference giants.

Tuesday night, the Warriors dropped a 115-105 decision to the lowly Los Angeles Lakers (9-19) at the Staples Center. Despite coach Byron Scott giving Lakers perennial All-Star Kobe Bryant a night off, the Warriors failed to stymy an offensive outburst from the home team. LA hit 46 of 89 field goals, good for 51.7 percent, turning Golden State’s routinely stout defense to Swiss cheese.

Seven Lakers cracked double-digit scoring, with Carlos Boozer (18 points) and starter Ronnie Price (17) leading the charge. Boozer went 8 for 11 from the floor in his 26 minutes of work, coming a rebound shy of a double-double.

Stephen Curry topped the Dubs with 22 points on 10 of 14 makes to attempts. Fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson made six baskets and hit a pair of free throws, but also missed on another 11 shot attempts. In just his second game back from a hamstring injury, David produced 12 points in his 18 minutes of play off the bench.

The Warriors shot 46.4 percent as a team, just under two percent off their season mark and fell three rebounds shy of matching their foes at 42-39. Golden States’ downfall, aside from a loose defensive effort, was an inability to maintain possession. Kerr’s charges turned the ball over 19 times in LaLa land Tuesday, proving to keen to hand out gifts on the night before Christmas Eve.

The Warriors failed to outscore LA in a quarter until the fourth, but by then they were already down 95-73. A 32-20 Warriors fourth quarter turned the final score into a deceptively close margin of defeat.

The Warriors take Christmas Eve off before stealing center stage as the final Christmas Day game on the slate. With another SoCal rival, the Clippers, on the docket, it’s doubtful the Warriors will bring with them holiday cheer when they take the Staples Center court once again Thursday night.

Cardinal earn huge OT road win over No. 9-Texas

By DANIEL DULLUM

Anthony Brown knocked down a season-best 25 points Tuesday, leading Stanford to a stunning 74-71 upset victory over No. 9-ranked Texas in a non-conference men’s basketball game played at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Chasson Randle added 22 points for the Cardinal (7-3), who had not defeated a Top 10 team on the road since 2008. Reid Travis scored seven points and pulled down

Javan Felix led Texas (10-2) with 19 points, followed by Jonathan Holmes and Kendal Yancey with 14 points each. Longhorn Myles Turner grabbed eight rebounds.

As a team, Stanford hit 8 of 18 3-pointers. Brown hit 4 of 4 behind the arc, but he capped his big night with an inside drive with 1:08 left in overtime.

With 41 seconds left in overtime, Brown hit a jumper near the free throw circle to put Stanford ahead to stay. After Felix missed a 3-pointer, Randle sank a jumper with 10 seconds to play that provided the Cardinal with their margin of victory.

Along with getting a win that might be the difference in March when teams are selected for the NCAA tournament, the Cardinal snapped a four-game streak in which they trailed by double-digits in the first half. This happened in the previous four games, including losses to DePaul and Brigham Young and wins over Denver and Loyola Marymount.

The Cardinal return home on Monday, Dec. 29, for a non-conference game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

49ers to host Cardinals in season finale

By: Phillip Torres

SANTA CLARA-The San Francisco 49ers (7-8) will host the Arizona Cardinals (11-4) on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale. San Francisco is looking to avoid their first losing season since the 2010 campaign where they finished 6-10.  Arizona, on the other hand is looking to lock up the number one seed in the NFC Playoffs with a victory.

The 49ers are once again looking to play the role of spoiler by costing Arizona a first round bye in the playoffs. The Cardinals have already secured a playoff berth and are looking to get an extra week of rest and head straight to the divisional round of the playoffs. San Francisco could not get the job done last week as they blew a 28-7 lead to the playoff hopeful San Diego Chargers on Saturday night. The victory keeps the Chargers playoff hopes alive as they look to sneak into the AFC Playoffs via a Wild Card spot.

The 49ers loss on Saturday means that they will finish no better then 8-8 on the season.  San Francisco last finished with a .500 record in 2009 under head coach Mike Singletary. That was Singletary’s last full season as the head coach for the 49ers as he did not finish the 2010 season with the team.  Head coach Jim Harbaugh did not speak too much about the loss to San Diego, but backed up his players 100 percent.

“The young guys were out there battling. It was a tough loss. Give a lot of credit to San Diego,” said Harbaugh.

The feeling in the locker room was like no other for San Francisco. After playing such a great game offensively, the team seemed as if they were hit in the gut. The 49ers offense ran for over 350 yards in the 38-35 overtime loss to the Chargers.  Runningback Frank Gore finished with 158 yards on the ground, including a 55-yard touchdown run to open up the scoring. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick tallied up 151 rushing yards and ran himself into the records books with a 90-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring for San Francisco. The 90-yard scramble was the second longest touchdown run by quarterback in NFL history.  The team finished with a team record 355 yards on the ground, 335 of which came in regulation.

Despite the three interceptions, including one pick six by San Francisco, the 49ers defense still allowed 454 yards of total offense. Including 356 yards through the air by Philip Rivers and four touchdown passes. The defense could not hang onto a 28-7 second quarter lead, and looked completely over matched in the overtime frame.

Arizona will be playing for the division title and a shot to become the number one seed in the NFC. They would need a Seattle Seahawks loss to the St. Louis Rams. The Seahawks will be hosting the Rams at CenturyLink field. Kickoff for the 49ers v.s. Cardinals game will be at 1:25 PM.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Woman says she asked how she ended up in ex-49er McDonald’s bed

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

SANTA CLARA–The newest Jane Doe in the life of former San Francisco 49er linebacker Ray McDonald had made it to a couple bars in San Jose area before ending up at McDonald’s house. She reportedly passed out and fell by his pool landed on her face and was helped by McDonald to his bed. She said she woke up naked and later the next day asked McDonald what happened and how she got there. McDonald at first told her that he put her there so she could sleep it off. The story goes that he admitted they had sex and she asked McDonald why he lied and he said that he didn’t want to lie and be accused of rape.

It also was reported that police sat in for the women and texted with McDonald trying to get him to admit rape but according the transcripts there was nothing that could prove any admission of rape. It’s been a very unfortunate year for the NFL regarding domestic violence charges and the like and now this has turned into a full blown police investigation. Further 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith who was also suspended earlier this season for nine games for substance abuse and behavior issues. It was reported that Smith had been drinking at McDonald’s house on the day of the McDonald sexual assault allegation incident.

The woman got checked at a San Jose hospital and that’s when the police set up a text interview with McDonald disguising themselves as Jane Doe. They traded texts and couldn’t get McDonald to conclusively admit that he had committed any acts of sexual assault against the woman. For Aldon Smith the only report on him was that he had brought over some vodka and cranberry juice and drank with Doe and McDonald. There is no indication that Smith did anything criminal in this latest issue concerning Ray McDonald.

This situation is going to be a tough time for McDonald who earlier had a domestic violence cloud hanging over him and now he’s facing being accused of sexual assault. McDonald’s attorney is going to try and work out his version of things and we already know Doe’s version. This is a he said she said situation. Unless someone had a camera there, were there witnesses, and you can believe one or two people and unfortunately in a case like this this happens a lot with these types of scandals and problems.

The police posing as the woman texting to McDonald could be like a sting operation whatever you call it, and I’m sure that is the case. McDonald’s attorney is going to claim entrapment and that’s what attorneys do when the police try to put a bait out there for you. As the police pose as Jane Doe and texted with him, who knows where this is going to end up. One thing I can tell you McDonald is glad that this season is just about over when he was asked to leave the 49ers.

At least now the media wants to talk to him and you won’t see him on the field and you have to see him at home or the telephone and McDonald doesn’t want to talk to anybody and he’s seeking an attorney’s advice and it’s a sad case. McDonald has denied any sexual assault took place and the woman says that she denies to consenting to sex with McDonald according to court documents.

Now the matter has turned into attorney against attorney and there are going to be high powered attorneys involved and they charge you $1000 an hour for legal documents, work, going to court, filing motions and more testimony. We’ll be hearing a lot more about this case. There will be more talk about this through the post season into the Super Bowl and this case could be a major distraction as it will be a national story and talked about during the NFL playoffs.

Sac Kings Commentary: After tough loss to W’s Kings ready themselves for Suns and Knicks

by Charlie O

SACRAMENTO–On Monday night the Sacramento Kings fell quickly behind the Golden State Warriors at the Coliseum Arena by 16 points in the first quarter. I think the total was said and done when the Warriors Stephen Curry came down tip it in and tip it back out to him and he then hit a 35 footer for three. At that point your going “there’s not that much chance that the Kings are going to win that game.”

That’s going to happen to a team like the Kings, they are at a echelon right now where their going to come up against a team like Golden State and the Warriors are the best team in the NBA. Their going to have to play and play well but the chances of beating a team like the Warriors right now is meniscal, because the Warriors are just so deep and so talented but it’s good for the Kings to get out there and see what their up against.

In essence Golden State and San Antonio are the models in which the Kings to follow to ultimately become. The Kings had a chance last night to see a team be who they want to be. It’s just a hard lesson when your going to walk away. A 20 point win for the Warriors the fact of the matter is the game wasn’t as close as the score would imply.

In terms of the Kings victory Sunday afternoon against the Lakers the Kings were just a better team. The Lakers are not a good basketball team that’s just the bottom line. The Lakers are not a relevant team in the NBA at this moment. The only person on the team that makes them interesting to most basketball fans is Kobe Bryant. Kobe did score 25 points against the Kings on Sunday in that loss to the Kings with the Kings winning that game 108-101.

Kobe got the 25 points but he shot 8-30 from the field, now your thinking about that 8-30 from the field and the Lakers as a team only shot 87 shots during the entire course of the game. You got one guy whose not hitting and not dominating the shooting. It was a painful thing to see. You look at Kobe and how he’s performed as a player over the course of his career, the fact of the matter is my view point at this time…Kobe should hang em up.

Kobe is just a shell of his former self and he’s the shell of himself on a team that’s not very good, the only player on the Lakers that’s capable coming out kind of dominating the floor right now is Nick Young. Young has come off the bench scoring 26 points and we know that Young has come with a lot of baggage and matter of fact the Lakers weren’t sure if he was going to be suspended for last Sunday’s game for actions taken in an earlier game.

The Kings get ready to face the Phoenix Suns on Friday night in Phoenix and the Kings have some things to look forward to and the fact that they beat the Suns on November 7th in a game that was an offensive fireworks show the Kings beat the Suns 114-112 in Phoenix. It’s very tough to beat the Suns at home and they did that, the Suns have come in and 15-14 for the season they will have played Dallas before coming to Sacramento on Friday.

Sacramento Kings Ownership Group Sued By Unhappy Businessman

DARIUS ANDERSON

by Charlie O. Mallonee

The Sacramento Bee Newspaper and other area media outlets are reporting a lawsuit has been filed against the Sacramento Kings ownership group. Darius Anderson believes he should have been included in that ownership group.

Anderson is described in the lawsuit as a businessman and political advisor. The lawsuit goes on to describe in detail Anderson’s involvement in keeping the Kings in Sacramento after the Maloof’s declared their intention to move the franchise.

Anderson worked with investor Ron Burkle to assemble an investor group. Burkle brought in Mark Mastrov. Mastrov was instrumental in bringing Vivek Ranadive into the potential ownership group. Both Mastrov and Ranadive were minority owners of the Golden State Warriors.

Burkle appeared to be the lead investor and would manage the purchase of the team. Burkle then suddenly dropped out of the group when it was revealed he owns a company that represents several NBA players.

That left Mastrov, Ranadive and Anderson, so thought Anderson. When the purchase was made final, Anderson was not included in the group. Anderson believes he should have been included and that is why he bringing suit.

Anderson is suing the Kings for compensatory damages, punitive damages and a share of ownership in the team.

The Sacramento Bee reported an official response from the Kings:

Kings spokeswoman Laura Braden called the suit disappointing and said Anderson has already made money from his effort. That occurred when Anderson and his partners sold Downtown Plaza, site of the new Kings arena, to the team last year for a $15 million profit.

“Mr. Anderson and his partners made a considerable profit on the final sale of … Downtown Plaza,” Braden said in a text message. “This is a frivolous lawsuit seeking even more money, and we feel confident it’ll be dismissed in short order.”

Sports Radio Service will continue to follow the story as it unfolds.

Stanford Ends Two-Game Winning Streak, Edges Past UC Davis 71-59

By Joe Lami

The Stanford Cardinal had a two-game road trip from hell last week, as they saw losses to both Chattanooga and Tennessee to mark the first time they’ve had back-to-back losses since 2010. They returned to Maples Pavilion and to their normal form on Monday afternoon, as they defeated the UC Davis Aggies 71-59.

Bonnie Samuelson was the difference maker for the Cardinal, as she hit a new career high in points with 30. The three-point specialist had six of her eight made field goals come from beyond the arc. Bonnie’s younger sister, Karlie, added three more from downtown to contribute to the Cardinal’s ten made three-pointers.

UC Davis held in with Stanford, shooting 41% from the field. Alyson Doherty led the team with 17 points, while Sydnee Fipps added 13. The Aggies also outrebounded the No. 16 ranked Cardinal 35-30, as UC Davis overall just outrebounded Stanford.

The struggles continue for Lili Thompson, as the star guard was held to one of six shooting to finish the game with three points.

Stanford’s No. 16 ranking is their lowest in since January 2nd, 2006, when they also had a No. 16 ranking. They continue into their holiday break until Saturday, when they will close out their non-conference schedule against UC Santa Barbara.
