SANTA CLARA–Since 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh took over the 49ers the team hadn’t lost two consecutive games ever. So it was shocking they got walloped by the Indianapolis Colts last Sunday and Seattle the week before. The Colts were expected to be a mediocre team but the 49ers wound up laying an egg at home on their own turf. The 49ers looked just bad and it was just an awful game.
The Niners got the one touchdown early in the game and they didn’t score after that and it was just ugly. The 49ers are suffering through a string of injuries right now that’s been tough they lost Ian Williams a nose tackle and since Glenn Dorsey took over the 49ers run defenses did a great job of stopping everyone the other day. It was the rushing yards Indianapolis had 179 yards on the ground. Which is unheard of against that Niners defense.
Patrick Willis got injured with a groin injury he left in the middle of the game and it was kind of like one injury after another. Ray McDonald played on two sprained ankles. It was really tough on defense and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck who Harbaugh knows very well and so do Bay Area fans from his Stanford days he played a great game and he was very efficient and he had the Indianapolis offense moving up and down the field.
Luck picked his spots and made his plays and that was it and you look up at the scoreboard it’s 27-7 Colts and the game was over. With the 49ers it was one of the ugliest games under the Jim Harbaugh era and they have to make a quick turn around as their next game is in St.Louis on Thursday night this is a team that has had the 49ers number. The last season since Jeff Fisher took over as head coach for the Rams the Rams have played the 49ers very, very tough.
Remember against St.Louis that was the game where former 49er quarterback Alex Smith got injured and Colin Kaepernick took over half way through and the 49ers ended up tying that football game and then they played in St.Louis and lost in overtime. The Rams don’t look all that great right now. The Rams get up for the 49ers their the big division rivals the team that’s been beating them down the last few years and St.Louis is looking at this like the biggest games of the season.
The 49ers are coming to their house on a Thursday night in prime time and St.Louis is going to be amped up and they have the advantage because they’ll be home and they don’t have to travel on a short week so it’s going to be tough for San Francisco. Especially since they won’t have that much time to recover from their injuries we don’t even know, as mentioned Patrick Willis and Ian Williams and all these other guys are out.
Remember Vernon Davis didn’t even play against Indianapolis we don’t even know if he’s going to be facing the Rams and the one thing we’ve learned so far is that the 49ers receiving is pretty thin Anquan Boldin can do it but if he’s the only one catching passes it really limits the offense once they realize he’s the main option they just key in on him and and it doesn’t seem like anybody is getting open at this stage of the game.
When Davis was there in the first game of the season he had a big game so the combination of them kept the Packers honest in the game one but since then we haven’t anything of the sort. The Seahawks figured on how to take Boldin out of the game and while he did a little bit better against Indianapolis the offense was ineffective. So the Niners are off to St.Louis and will try and avoid a third consecutive loss.
