SaberCats cut the Power, record win 78-20

PITTSBURGH — The SaberCats recorded the teams most lopsided victory in it’s history tonight by beating the Pittsburgh Power, 78-20.SaberCat Quarterback Russ Michna went 15 for 17 with 156 yards passing and connection on five touchdowns. Jason Willis led the San Jose receivers with 9 catches for 150 yards but Huey Whittaker nabbed the most TDs with four on seven receptions.Pittsburgh Quarterback Shane Austin connected on 21 passes for a pair of scores and 188 yards but gave up 3 interceptions to the San Jose defense. Tyrone Collins grabbed most of the passes from Austin for a 112 yards but wasn’t able to convert any of those into points for the Power. Mike Washington was able to score all of Pittsburgh’s points as he had three touchdowns on the night on 57 yards receiving

“I thought the guys played hard for four quarters tonight and they played very well,” SaberCats coach Darren Arbet said.

The SaberCats defense was able to pester Pittsburgh’s offensive line and totaled eight sacks on Austin and forced four turnovers. Clevan Thomas led the team with two interceptions which included his league leading 13th of the year.

San Jose heads back home for the final two games of the season. The first is this coming Saturday against the leaders of the American Conference East, Philadelphia Soul. Game time 7:30pm PST.
